Pakistan consists of several provinces, including Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). Punjab is the home of the founder of the Sikh religion and has continued to play an important role in Pakistan. The Punjab region has become predominantly Muslim, and Dargahs dominate the region's landscape. Punjab is also the capital of Pakistan's largest city Lahore and the second largest province of Karachi.
The Muslim population, who are in the majority in the city of Jalandhar, used the language of the city of Jalandhar until it was rehabilitated. Pothohari PunJabi (spoken in Rawalpindi in West Punjab), Hindko (spoken in the Peshawar department of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa), Saraiki (spoken in Multan) and Pithori (spoken in Poonch) are all extinct in India.

A more recent historic site in Lahore is the site of a resolution calling for the creation of a homeland for Muslims. Pakistanis want a princely state of Kapurthala, ruled by the Muslim majority.
Although little was known about Gujranwala at the time of the Islamic conquest of Tsiang, Taki was forgotten after Lahore became Punjab's capital. The region of today's GuJranWala, to which the present city Kapurthala as well as parts of the city itself belong, remained under Rajput rule until 1193. After the fall of the Mughal Empire, it was ruled by the Sikh Empire and then by a Muslim Empire until the end of World War II.
